Congressman Hall faces Republican challengers

BY KATHY WILLIAMS

HERALD DEMOCRAT

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall, R-Texas, will face five challengers for the Republican nomination to Texas' Fourth Congressional District seat. Whoever wins that race will face Democrat VaLinda Hathcox of Sulphur Springs and Libertarian Jim D. Priddle of Allen.

Incumbent Republican State Rep. Larry Phillips of Sherman won't have to campaign within his own party for the March primary. But he will have to beat Libertarian Kenneth Myers of Denison for the 62 District seat in the State House of Representatives in November.

According to filings with the Texas Republican Party, those trying to knock 30-year incumbent Ralph Hall of Rockwall out of his congressional seat include: John Cooper of Sulphur Springs, who lists his occupation as Baptist minister; Joshua Kowert of Sherman, an associate professor of economics; Steve Clark of Heath, a telecommunications executive; Jerry Ray "Tea" Hall of Rockwall, a mediator; and Lou Giglioti, a businessman from Princeton.

Libertarian Prindle is a Realtor. Democrat Hathcox is a veterinarian and attorney.

Texas Fourth Congressional District is a large one, encompassing Bowie, Camp, Cass, Collin, Delta, Fannin, Franklin, Grayson, Hopkins, Hunt, Lamar, Morris, Rains, Red River, Rockwall and Titus counties.

In the race for state representative of the district that includes Fannin and Grayson counties, Phillips, who has served District 62 since 2003, is a Sherman attorney. Myers did not list an occupation on the Libertarian Web site.

Monday was the final day to file as a candidate in a political party primary election, set for March 2. To vote in the election, a citizen must be registered by Feb. 1. In Grayson County, voters can find registration application cards at the Grayson County Courthouse in Sherman, the Subcourthouse in Denison, U.S. Post Offices, the Grayson County Health Department, the Texas Department of Human Services and Public libraries. Or citizens may visit www.co.grayson.tx.us and print out a copy of the application form. Competed forms should be mailed to Grayson County Voter Registrar, P.O. Box 2107, Sherman, TX 75091.

The first day of early voting is Feb. 16 and the last day is Feb. 26.

"Dr". Jerry Hall : 2/11/2010
This guy is nothing he says he is, he would not stand the simplest scrutiny, hope somebody in the party takes a little time to really look into this guy, before the democrats do. His entire life is a delusional fabrication accompanied by wife bitting rage episodes and violent lashes at who ever questions his "credentials", in short he is insanely dangerous to trust with any kind of authority, and an embarrassment to the Republican party.

A concern republican

Dr. Jerry Hall : 2/5/2010
Jerry Hall's Ph.D. is in what? From what university?
Could he still be using that degree from that diploma mill, Columbia State University? See the International Association of Mediators and Arbitrators (IAMA) website:
"Dr. Hall holds a Doctorate degree is Psychology from Columbia State University and is a graduate of the Harvard School of Law negotiations."
http://www.e-iama.com/main_advisors.htm
He claimed this was an error by the websmaster. He claimed he graduated from Columbia University. This was pointed out to him years ago but clearly he has no reason to change it. Why? It is his site:
http://www.whois.sc/e-iama.com
For the diploma mill story, see USA TODAY:
http://www.usatoday.com/money/workplace/2003-09-28-fakedegrees_x.htm
And hey, from his description, do you get the impression that he graduated from Harvard Law? Nope, he did not. He attended a course or two there but those people in Panama won't know any better.
Ah, but they do, Jerry.
Don't take our word for it. See for yourself. Click on the links and educate yourself.
Cut and paste this into Google: "Dr. Jerry Hall Panama"
Now, watch the responses from all his alter egos. You've met a few here already. will he strike out with an attack, or explain himself.

Shady? : 2/5/2010
I don't know, but consider this: during his time living in Panama, and promoting his business interests there, Mr. Jerry Hall chose to use the title Dr. Jerry Hall. No evidence has been found to substantiate any legitimate claim for such a title. We're still waiting, "Dr." Hall!

Local Tea Party doesn't endorse Jerry Ray "TEA" Hall : 1/26/2010
According to a quote from the leader of the Northeast Texas Tea Party, Jerry Ray Hall is not the one the group supports for the race. I bet he feels stupid putting "Tea" in his name when he's not even the group's choice! I copied the quote below from a story in The Paris News.
"Cooper (John) has gained the support of the Northeast Texas Tea Party Patriots as evidenced by a recent political forum from which candidate Jerry Hall was turned away."

Just an Observation

Agreed : 1/14/2010
Yeah, anonymous poster. Because you called a Christian candidate "shady", you must SURELY be an atheist.
I don't know about you guys, but I was all set to vote for Ralph until I succumbed to the ironclad logic of his wife's arguments.

NOT AMUSED : 1/13/2010
It seems like you have not taken the time to even get to know Jerry, he is a charitable person, spending his own money to do a Christian concert in Panama to bring 700 children to Christ, and you have the odasity to call him shady. If you were a stand up person you would have listed your name. Instead of hiding behind the internet. I am married to this man and see his constant giving all the time, and never asking anything in return. He has done more good in his life than anyone else could do in 10 lifetimes. I am assamed of you pretending to be a stand up person making comments so negative without a single piece of evidence. So one thing IS YOU MUST BE AN ATHEIST trying to bring down a Godly man or just another internet hate monger. I am sorry if I offend some people her but I think it is time that a strong voice speak out I can't set by and let this happen to a good man.

Jerry Ray Hall : 1/13/2010
Well it seems that Jerry is getting under the skins of the same old people who are not even in the district the person that posted that comment above doesnt even live in the district. The district has changed. As for Shady, its because they choose not to talk to him about what he has accomplished, Misionary in Panama bring 700 Children to Christ with Steven Baldwin, Jerry Paying for all this out of his own pockets. Built Multi-Million Dollar businesses, and contributed millions to numerous charities. SO THE SHADY, is because someone who wants to hid behind the internet CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH. IT'S TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE AND HE HAS THE GUTS TO STAND UP WHEN NO ONE ELSE CAN.

Missed a call : 1/10/2010
I'm Kenneth Myers, the Libertarian candidate for district 62. I missed a call from the Herald Democrat and didn't get to give them my info before the article went to press, and it looks like they had trouble finding it.
My occupation (relevant or not) is adjunct professor of ESL at Grayson College, and (intermittently) textbook writer.
Until my financial papers are filed and my web site is designed, most of the pre-game banter about my campaign will be happening at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kenneth-Myers-for-Texas-House-of-Representatives/211990143519 .
I also invite anyone who wants to learn more about the liberty movement--about holding the bailout-loving corrupt Democrats and the bailout-loving corrupt Republicans accountable, about drawing a line in the sand, about reclaiming the Jeffersonian understanding of limited government that made America and later the Texan Republic great--to drop me a line at kenmyers@gmail.com . Ask me anything.

I never split a ticket... : 1/9/2010
It used to upset my father something fears because I refused to ever cast a single vote for the political home party of the KKK, NARAL, NAMBLA, and the ACLU even to support Congressman Hall. ...... I remained steadfast to my convictions and never did vote for Congressman Hall when he ran as a DemocRAT, even though he always cast his vote in favor of all things American and Constitutional. 180 degrees opposite of any other DemocRAT in Congress....... However, I've been voting for Congressman Hall ever since he came over to the pro-American side, and will continue to support him as long as he wishes to continue supporting us.
God Bless you Mr. Hall.

Texan to my core!

question... : 1/8/2010
Are the two Halls related in any way?

Lynn Ramsey

Politically correct? : 1/7/2010
Is the Libertarian candidate spelled Priddle or Prindle? A little old fashioned newspaper editing might help? Just a suggestion.

Informed in Sherman

Why? : 1/7/2010
Cong. Ralph Hall has the most conservative, pro-life, military veteran, voting record in Congress. Punish someone because they do thier job? The liberal democrat needs voting out, not Cong. Hall. He is a career statesman not a career politician, there is a big difference in the terms. Cong. Hall has and will represent us with honor, duty, country and he listens to us. Be thankful not ungreatful of what Cong. Hall has and will do for us.

MARK WASHBURN

Hmmm : 1/7/2010
It speaks to someone's character who would put "Tea" in their name to give the appearance of being a Tea party candidate without having any affiliation. I'm old enough to remember Jerry Hall when he ran in 1996, he was a bit shady then, and it seems nothing has changed. I hope one of the other candidates stands up and calls him out on it.

Not Amused

: 1/7/2010
Time for Ralph Hall to retire, one way or another!
